Welcome to the Total Solar Eclipse Photography Class for Cell Phones!

This class is being offered 2 times on different dates to accommodate different schedules.

The total solar eclipse is less than a month away! Learn how to (safely) capture the moment like a pro using only your smartphone.

Join us at Up Front Art Space for a hands-on workshop on capturing the beauty of a solar eclipse using just your cell phone camera. Learn tips and tricks from an experienced photographer on how to take stunning photos of this rare celestial event. Whether you're a beginner or a seasoned photographer, this class is Suitable for novice to intermediate photographers, as well as enthusiasts, there is no experience required!

Don't miss out on this unique opportunity to learn how to capture the magic of a total solar eclipse with your cell phone!

This one-hour workshop will go over:

  • Viewing safety, both for your eyes and your phone

  • Basic phone camera modes

  • Eclipse timeline and best ways to capture the different stages

  • Photographing the sky under different weather conditions. Let's face it- this is Ohio; it could be sunny or snowing on April 8.

Workshop also includes:

  • Practice time, either outdoors with the actual sun or indoors with bright lights.

  • Each participant will receive a full-spectrum camera filter to keep and use on the big day!

  • Free entry into Up Front Art Space's eclipse-inspired art show "Total Eclipse of the Art" in June.

This workshop is led by Plan 10 Photodesign's Kay Phelps. Kay has been a professional studio photographer for more than 10 years, and traveled to Kentucky in 2017 to photograph the total eclipse from start to finish. She holds a Pholo-Illustration degree from KSU, co-owns Up Front Art Space and is generally found coloring or listening to podcasts when not at work.

SLR Photography Class for the Total Solar Eclipse

The Total Solar Eclipse is less than a month away!

Join us at Up Front Art Space for a DSLR Photography Class dedicated to capturing the Total Solar Eclipse!

This in-person event is perfect for both beginners and experienced photographers looking to enhance their skills.

Learn how to (safely) capture the moment like a pro using your own DSLR camera! Suitable for amateur all the way to professionals, this workshop assumes a basic working knowledge of SLR controls and some experience using manual mode.


This one and a half hour workshop will go over:

  • Viewing safety, both for your eyes and your camera lenses

  • Basic exposure and manual camera controls

  • Off-meter exposure

  • Eclipse timeline and best ways to capture the different stages

  • Photographing the sky under different weather conditions. Let's face it- this is Ohio; it could be sunny or snowing on April 8.

Workshop also includes:

  • Practice time, either outdoors with the actual sun or indoors with bright lights.

  • Each participant will receive a full-spectrum camera filter individually fitted to your lens to keep and use on the big day!

  • Free entry into Up Front Art Space's eclipse-inspired art show "Total Eclipse of the Art" in June.
